Ladies — defend yourselves! Tim Toterhi teaches you how to develop a personal safety strategy.

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — Sunbury Press has released Tim Toterhi’s personal security self-help book “Defend Yourself: Developing a Personal Safety Strategy.”

dy_fcAbout the Book:
While most books in this category limit themselves to citing statistical data, describing case histories, or displaying various self-defense techniques, Defend Yourself! covers the entire issue in a clear, concise, workbook format. Instead of simply skimming chapters, the reader is encouraged to actively participate in the exercises within each lesson.

The book describes the most up-to-date prevention, empowerment, communication, and self-defense methods. In addition, the physical techniques are complemented by an in-depth analysis of potential attackers including a description of each offender type and the various modus operandi employed.

Each lesson concludes with a summary of the main points and a series of questions and exercises that will assist the reader in developing a Personal Safety Strategy. In addition, the Afterward contains a follow-up plan to help the reader keep her skills current. This is critical because a safety strategy is only useful if it is consistently used and continuously improved. The book is written in a way that should appeal to the general self-help space as well as specific audiences such as martial arts schools, adult education programs, crisis centers, and even college level women’s study programs.

About the Author:
Tim Toterhi is a leadership development professional. As an avid martial artist he has long supported leadership development and safety programs for children and adults. Fifty percent of the author’s profits resulting from the sale of Defend Yourself will be donated to RAINN. (www.rainn.org) Tim is also an organization development professional for a major health care company based in North Carolina. He began his career in strategic sales and transitioned to human resources via learning and development. Over the past 15 years, he has held global roles in change management, organization development, talent management, and learning operations. He is an executive coach and the author of numerous articles on business best practices.

The last clash of battleships in history highlighted in “That Night at Surigao”

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — Sunbury Press has released Dr. M. Ernest Marshall’s World War II naval history “That Night at Surigao: Life on a Battleship at War.”

tnas_fcAbout the Book:
That Night at Surigao is a blend of thousands of pages of primary source documentation from records of three battleships, a 3-year long diary kept by a Navy Lieutenant, and memoirs. It collates ships’ records with diary and memoir to create a ‘diary-within-a-diary’, matching the history of the battleships with the history of several individuals. It reduces the naval war in the Pacific to the level of the individual and gives the reader a close idea of what life was like aboard a battleship at war. It follows all the major battles from Tarawa to Okinawa. Also included in the back of the book is the book “USS Virginia Crosses the Equator Again.”

About the Author:
M. Ernest Marshall, M.D. of Lynchburg, Virginia, is a retired Full Professor of Medicine in Hematology/Oncology who has published widely within the medical and scientific literature, and has served on a number of Editorial Review Boards for medical and scientific publications. He is a member of the U. S. Naval Institute, the Society for Military History, the Oral History Association, the USS West Virginia Association, and the Lynchburg Historical Foundation. This is his first nonfiction, non-medical manuscript.
That Night at Surigao has been honored by the New England Book Festival.
